- World Investor Week 2025, led by International Organization of Securities Commissions, brings together regulators and institutions to promote investor education and protection across global markets.
- Key themes focus on digital finance, artificial intelligence, and fraud prevention, highlighting both the opportunities and risks while urging investors to verify information and avoid common traps.
- The initiative promotes disciplined habits, practical knowledge, and early education, helping investors make informed decisions and handle market volatility.
WASHINGTON, Sept. 20, 2025 — World Investor Week is a global campaign promoted by the International Organization of Securities Commissions, or IOSCO, to raise awareness about the importance of investor education and protection.
During October 6-12, 2025, the Securities and Exchange Commission (national coordinator), Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Securities Investor Protection Corporation, Commodity Futures Trading Commission, National Futures Association, North American Securities Administrators Association and supporters are working together with interested government agencies, localities, and organizations to promote World Investor Week 2025, or WIW 2025, and its goals in the United States.
Investors in capital markets today are expected to remain fully aware of technical aspects as well as unforeseen instances in case of market volatility. IOSCO’s World Investor Week is a week-long, global campaign to raise awareness of the importance of investor education and protection, and to highlight the various initiatives of securities regulators in these two critical areas.
Kicking off on October 6, 2025, with the support of the G20 Presidency, WIW 2025 will bring together organizations from over 100 jurisdictions to drive awareness around trending issues that impact investors worldwide.
Principal Themes
Technology and Digital Finance: New technologies use algorithms that may not consider the personal risk tolerance of the investor. Imitative trading or fractional trading are not substitutes for portfolio diversification or preparedness for unforeseen events.
Artificial Intelligence: AI tools can enhance financial services, but there are many associated risks which investors need to be aware of, including the exploitation of personal data and errors in automated trading.
Fraud and Scam Prevention: Fraudsters are sophisticated and actively exploit investor trends for their own financial gain, luring unsuspecting investors into scams ranging from phishing to pig butchering. These themes align with IOSCO’s Roadmap for Retail Investor Online Safety and will be complemented with discussions and activities on crypto assets and the basics of investing.
How Can Investors Protect Themselves in a Digital Age?
WIW 2025 encourages investors to actively safeguard their assets by understanding the risks associated with new technologies, AI-driven trading tools, and online platforms. Investors are urged to verify information, recognize suspicious activities, and maintain diversified portfolios to reduce vulnerability to scams and market shocks. Educational webinars and resources will focus on practical steps that anyone, from beginners to seasoned investors, can take to protect their financial well-being.
Building Long-Term Financial Awareness
Understanding the Fundamentals: Investors are encouraged to develop disciplined approaches that include goal setting, market cycle awareness, and periodic review of investment strategies. Programs during the week will provide guidance on personal finance management, risk assessment, and the importance of diversification across asset classes.
Engaging the Next Generation: Schools, universities, and community organizations will host interactive sessions aimed at young investors and first-time market participants. By instilling sound financial habits early, WIW 2025 seeks to cultivate a generation of investors who make informed and prudent decisions, ensuring long-term market participation that is responsible and resilient.
Expert Opinion
IOSCO Board Chairman Jean-Paul Servais, who also serves as Chair of the Belgium Financial Services & Markets Authority, said, “Investor protection is an important cornerstone of IOSCO’s work. Just recently, the Board approved several publications which address how technology is influencing retail investment decisions, including tips to online investors on how to stay clear of associated risks. This year’s WIW will help keep the spotlight on these discussions. I am grateful to all our members and partner organizations for their continued support.”
Last year’s World Investor Week involved 132 entities across 118 jurisdictions and reached millions of individuals. Activities were often supplemented at the national level by a range of industry and educational organizations, including local schools and universities.
World Investor Week 2025 will continue to provide accessible resources, interactive discussions, and practical guidance to help investors navigate modern financial markets confidently. The campaign aims to promote informed investing, helping individuals protect their finances, reach their goals responsibly, and adapt to changing global markets.
The investors in capital markets in the present age are expected to remain fully aware of the technical aspects as well as unforeseen instances in case of market volatility.
